12th International Platinum Symposium Abstracts

Year:
2014

Abstract volume includes presentations of the 12th International Platinum Symposium focusing on different aspects of geology, geochemistry, mineralogy and exploration of various platinum-group element (PGE) deposits and occurrences from over a globe. A variety of presentations cover discoveries and evaluations of mineralized areas, descriptions of the host rocks, characterizations of different platinum-group mineral assemblages, and ideas on the processes that form PGE mineralization. The materials of the volume are of a broad interest for geologists, earth scientists and students.

Ultramafic-mafic intrusions, volcanic rocks and PGE-Cu-Ni sulfide deposits of the Noril’sk Province, Polar Siberia. Field trip guidebook. 12th International Platinum Symposium

Year:
2014

The guidebook is dedicated to ultramafic-mafic intrusions, volcanic rocks and the world-class PGE-Cu-Ni sulfide deposits of the Noril’sk Province, Polar Siberia. The characteristics of geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of volcanic rocks and ore-bearing ultramafic-mafic intrusions are briefly outlined. The proposed excursion stops include inspection of the different volcanic and intrusive rocks, associated PGE-Cu-Ni sulfide ores from drill cores and bedrock outcrops. In addition, an open pit Medvezhy Ruchei and two mines (Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky) collectively provide an overview of the Noril’sk-type intrusions and associated disseminated and massive PGE-Cu-Ni sulfide ores. The materials of the guidebook are of a broad interest for geologists, earth scientists and students.

The Rai-Iz ophiolite massif in the Polar Urals: geology and chromite deposits. Field trip guidebook. 12th International Platinum Symposium

Year:
2014

The guidebook is dedicated to one of the unique objects of the Urals – Rai-Iz peridotite massif. The characteristics of geology, tectonics, mineralogy and geochemistry of ultramafic rocks and associated chromite deposits are briefly outlined. The features of the structure and composition of the post ophiolitic gabbro-diorite-tonalite association are presented. A series of geological intersections for the different rock complexes provides a fairly complete overview of the Rai-Iz massif. The materials are of a broad interest for geologists that are interested in the problems of the mantle origin and associated rock complexes.

The Nizhny Tagil and Volkovsky massifs of the Uralian Platinum Belt, and related deposits. Field trip guidebook. 12th International Platinum Symposium

Year:
2014

The guidebook illustrates two distinct types of ore-bearing massifs within the 900-km-long Uralian Platinum Belt: the Nizhny Tagil clinopyroxenite-dunite massif and related platinum bedrock and placer deposits, and the Volkovsky gabbro massif comprising copper sulfide deposit with PGE mineralization. Structure of the Tagil zone and general characteristic of magmatism, questions of age and genetic models are briefly outlined. The proposed excursion stops include inspection of different ultramafic and mafic lithologies from natural bedrock outcrops and open-pits.The materials of the guidebook are of a broad interest for geologists, earth scientists and students.
